Ali Ata’s Moving Hacks: Moving Prep and Unpacking Efficiently
For some of Ali Ata’s clients, moving out from one property to another or moving their furnishings carefully and quickly from home to storage (and vice versa) can be a stressful experience. It could take far too long if you’re not adequately prepared for it, and it can lead to chaos and delays in property move-ins.
Preparation is the key to a smooth
transition between homes and minimal property damage or breakage, so here are
some great tips to help you along.
•
Contact
your utility companies. Let your utility companies know immediately that you’re moving
so they can update your services to your new address.
•
Find
a reputable mover. Ali
Ata has found that many of his clients have horror stories on movers damaging
their property. Make sure to choose one with great reviews and a good
reputation.
•
Prepare
a moving budget. You’ll have
less stress with a budget set. You don’t want this move to get too expensive,
so set budgets for moving supplies, the company, and see how much you can
really afford.
•
Leave
your things in your drawers. Why even take them out? Keep all your clothing neatly folded and
packed in their proper drawers, and take the whole thing out to your moving
truck for convenience. Then take the bureau back out in your new home!
•
Use color-coding. Ali Ata recommends that if you’re using
boxes to pack up your stuff, make things easier to locate by color-coding the
boxes according to the room they’re supposed to go to. This way, you know
exactly where the boxes should go after you arrive at your new home, and you’re not
digging through boxes.
•
Leave
your clothes on hangers. Instead of wasting time removing them one by one, just keep them
in the hangers. When you move into your new place, they’ll be a lot easier to unpack and hang.
The most important reminder, says Ali
Ata, is to have a plan. Packing your whole life from one place to another
should not be a spur-of-the-moment day-of-the-move activity. Be prepared at
least a day beforehand. Soon, you’ll be settling comfortably into your new
home with minimum fuss.
